This is not a print, not plastic and not a replica: it is real moss. Grown, harvested and worked onto a backing by hand in Tyrol — then applied to the wall like wallpaper. What you see and touch is the same material that grows on the rocks in the forest.
Real moss, applied like wallpaper
Most green walls are one of two things: printed paper that shows moss — or a planted structure that needs looking after. A moss wall by ORGANOID is neither.
The moss sits as a natural surface on breathable flax fleece or on flax fleece with a PVC-free adhesive film. It is applied like wallpaper — the adhesive-film version even without paste and without a specialist installer. Different types of moss create an interplay of texture and colour across the whole surface: no pattern repeat, nothing that recurs, just grown irregularity.
Looks alive. Needs no plant care.
The moss is dried and worked into the surface. It no longer grows — which is why the maintenance list reads: nothing. No watering, no feeding, no trimming, no humidifier, no daylight. A windowless alcove, a meeting room in the core of the building, a corridor without windows — an indoor moss wall works there just as well as next to a south-facing window.
That is the difference from a living moss wall or a planted green wall, which needs irrigation, light and regular checks. And the difference from a print, which needs no care either, but only pretends.
If you want to be thorough, wipe it occasionally with a barely damp, lint-free cloth. Keep stiff brushes, harsh cleaning agents and steam cleaners away from it.
Moss wall or moss wall art — what you are probably looking for
The two terms are often mixed up, but they mean two different things:
- Moss wall art — usually framed reindeer moss, an object on the wall, typically the size of a picture.
- Moss wall — a continuous surface: an entire wall, an alcove, the back panel of a shelf, a ceiling.
ORGANOID makes the second. The surface ends where you want it to end — not at a frame.
The scent, and how long it lasts
Freshly applied, the surface smells of forest. The scent fades over the months — that is part of the material, not a flaw. Rub gently over the surface and it comes back for a moment. Print and plastic can’t do that either.
Allergy tests
For selected natural surfaces we had the decor layer tested for birch and grass allergens: for Alpine Meadow light (SGS Institut Fresenius, 2025) and for WILDSPITZE, BIRKÄ and MOUS (eco-Luftqualität + Raumklima, 2018), the values were below the limit of quantification.
