From a hay barn to natural surfaces
Ulrich Huber tells how Martin and Christoph started experimenting with organic materials in an old hay barn in 2010. ORGANOID was founded in 2012. Since then, surfaces made of hay, blossoms and leaves have been produced in Tyrol and applied like wallpaper on walls and ceilings, like a veneer on furniture, or with adhesive film on glass and metal.
Why acoustics
For us, acoustics is a natural next step rather than a new line of business: our natural surfaces are breathable, so they let through not only air but sound as well. Combined with sound absorbers made of natural materials, good room acoustics and surface become one design element.
Infinity and Modular
The range goes from the full surface Infinity system for walls and ceilings, through ceiling baffles and wall absorbers, to acoustic panels, acoustic pictures and acoustic tiles that combine like a modular kit. At the heart of the Modular series is the Active Core made of hemp fibres: sound enters the open fibre structure and is absorbed there. Modular comes in selected designs such as the ORGANOID ALPINE MEADOW LIGHT surface or as Pure, which shows the Active Core itself.
Acoustics should not look like a technical fix added afterwards.
